Mike:

I am sure many more of these revelations are still to come.

John:

Al said:

John:

Both. But more not surprised that Rocker took them.

Sam Cassell on the Celtics? Hmmm…

February 12th, 2008 by email · No Comments

John:

Link

“Earlier in the day, guard Sam Cassell said he was hoping to be bought out of his contract with the Clippers, which would allow him to sign with Boston. The 38-year-old added that he would have no problems playing behind Rondo.”

Wouldn’t that be Gary Payton all over again?

Mike:

This shit is already out of control. I am sick of these millionaire mother fxckers thinking they can ruin every aspect of the sport that pays them. Here is my message to those:

Hey assholes, when an owner pays you a salary you are now owned. Shut the fxck up and play ball.

John:

Yeah, besides all the tampering issues and stars acting like babies, what about Cassell on the Celtics? Does he still have something left? That would make the bench pretty darn good.

Mike:

I have not heard much about him this year. Maybe he has been hurt. When he is doing well he is scoring. But I don’t think the Celtics are hurting for scoring.

Sure he has good bball left in him. I don’t think that is the right question though. Look, I get the idea that he is the type of player that causes problems when things don’t go his way. Like now maybe?! I don’t see him as a happy bench player. Put it this way, he wants to go to the Celtics to play with the Big 3. If he is a Celtics bench player then he will be playing with the Backup 4. No way he stays happy. With that being said, PLEASE, please Celtics, please pick up a disgruntled Cassell.

John:

I see that since you now have your own Big Three (Kobe, Gasol, and…Bynum?) you have firmly placed your eyes on the championship. Wishing the Celtics a disgruntled Cassell with the hopes he will cause problems brings back the good old Celtics-Lakers rivalry. Honestly, I didn’t think it would happen so soon, but I welcome it!

Refreshing Change of View

February 5th, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

This turned out to be one of the most “refreshing” reads for me in a long time. Enjoy

(I am anxious to find out what Brandon has to comment about this.)

John:

Fantastic. I’ve struggled with this myself. I love the statistics, GM focus side of things, but I’ve often found that view to remove some of the joy out of baseball. Moneyball was an interesting read in that you were able to see part of the game from the other side. While I believe the progressive thinking of Bean et. all are good for the game and fans, and I’m glad my favorite teams employs smart sabermeticians, I don’t think it’s good for a fan to get too caught up in the numbers. Numbers are boring. People are interesting.

Just Wow

February 5th, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

John:

Maybe it’s the fact that I didn’t read the entire article, but I don’t get it.

Mike:

Oh, sorry. Here’s what happened:

Lakers and Memphis were about to make the Gasol trade when they realized that the money was not quite right in order for the trade to “work”. So the Lakers called McKie (retired) and told him that the Lakers were about to sign him to a contract then trade him to Memphis. Of course, the Grizz have no interest in playing him, or even keeping him on the roster, so they will most likely cut him immediately. They just needed a warm body with an expiring contract. Long story short, McKie was just handed free money for simply taking a physical to complete a trade of his brand new expiring contract.

John:

Ladies and gentlemen, the NBA.

Scary Lineup

February 5th, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

I don’t even need to add a joke to this…
The San Francisco Giants figure to take the biggest home attendance plunge in Major League Baseball this season. Barry Bonds is gone and Bengie Molina is projected as the cleanup hitter.

John:

Well, at least they don’t lose any speed.

Best Quote: “Seriously, props to the Giants, without whom this column might not have been possible.”

…Maybe chinwag motivated Perry at FoxSports to create this column. I was looking for “props to chinwag” at the bottom of the column, but to no avail. Oh well.

John:

That’s just ugly.

Game On

February 5th, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

As I am sure you have heard, the Lakers just picked up Pao Gasol and a future 2nd round pick for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, two future 1st rounders, Aaron Mckie, and the rights to Marc Gasol (Pao’s little bro). I don’t see any team in the West competing with that. The Lakers should be back on track for greatness.

John:

See you in the finals.

Santana And Mets, Sitting In A Tree?

January 31st, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

It is being said that Santana “forced” the Twins to trade him (to the Mets). If he wasn’t traded on Tuesday he would have enforced his no trade clause and opted to become a free agent at year end. This is a problem. The players are getting too much power. What if Santana and the Mets have been planning this all along? Maybe that is why the Mets were never close to giving up their best prospect, the one the Twins wanted, fully knowing that Santana would force the Twins’ hand. For that matter, the Twins are lucky that the Mets gave them 4 decent prospects.

John:

I’ve never been a fan of a no-trade clause. Way too much power is held by the player.

I was originally going to question his desire to move to the NL, but I think it makes sense. No DH, his numbers are better, the Mets are one of a few teams with a legitimate chance at getting to the WS, etc…

If the Mets and Santana had this choreographed, there’s some serious repercussions if someone can prove it.

Stephen A. Smith Fired

January 31st, 2008 by email · No Comments

John:

The Philly Inquirer fired Stephen A. Smith. They are now officially “way smarter” than ESPN.

Mike:

Let me guess… you must be the commenter “bling”. So fitting.

John:

No, no comments from me.

Are you commenter “Drew”?

Mike:

…And risk our friendship? No, I am in the “MSL94″ campaign.
