Tell Me Not To Get My Hopes Up

April 3rd, 2008 by email · No Comments

John:

Mike:

There is something entirely strange about his situation. Not long ago he was a Cy Young winner. He followed it up with another nice year. Then he got hurt and nobody wants to touch him. One team offered him a minor league deal. What ever happened to low risk high reward? He must have some scary skeletons in his closet. But if those skeletons can help the Sox beat the Yanks, then so be it. Right?

John:

Right.

Read this a couple times

Mike:

…then it will hit you how crazy some of these stats are.

John:

At first I was going to write you and ask why Pierre doesn’t bunt every single time he bats. Then I realized compared to the others, he sucks at bunting. But then I realized he’s still a better batter when bunting then when swinging, so naturally, he should do more of something he sucks at, because it makes him suck less.

Mike:

That is the exact same intellection that I went through! That was a fun exercise.

John:

That is both amusing and slightly disturbing.

Mike:

That was awesome.

It made sense.

I like it.

Juan Pierre can’t bunt too good.

They don’t fit on his bat.

Boycott?

March 19th, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

Do you agree with the RedSox threatened boycott of the Japan opener? Why should the fans suffer? And 40K per person?! Lots of nerve.

John:

I think it was a novel idea, and one that they probably felt was the right thing to do, but didn’t take into account many others affected by their actions.

John:

There was a Dodgers reference, so it had to be sent to you.

Mike:

I wonder how KT got my notes from the Nuclear Physics class that I just aced.  Or was it my Rocket Science class?  I don’t remember.  But I aced them both.

Mike:

Geez.  The eastern conference is an absolute joke.

John:

Way to kill my excitement.

Tommy John Surgery - Who’s Your Pick?

March 2nd, 2008 by email · No Comments

John:

I’m going with Gagne.

Mike:

What is this in regard to?

John:

There was supposed to be a link. Your pick for who’s most likely to have Tommy John Surgery this year.

Mike:

Gagne is a good choice.

Maybe Hong Chi Kuo.

Then why the $*@& was he playing?!!!

March 2nd, 2008 by email · 2 Comments

John:

Mike:

He’s not a whiner.

John:

My complaint is not with Hobbs. I wasn’t the biggest Hobbs supporter for most of the season, but he grew on me and I’m not so concerned with him next year. My complaint is that the coaches let him play, and cover a very good receiver, in the biggest game of the year, with two significant injuries, when there were other guys on the roster that were healthy.

Mike:

Spilled milk. So sour.

John:

I’m going to come over there and make you drink it.

FJM - Best Ever?

February 20th, 2008 by email · No Comments

John:

I’d rather read FJM than just about anything else out on the net these days.

Mike:

I think most of our internet peers agree. Also, check out “withleather”. More good stuff. Careful though, some of the posts are pg-14.

Just Wow

February 12th, 2008 by email · No Comments

Mike:

From NBA Power Rankings:

#1 (39-9) Boston’s not some Eastern Conference bully inflating its record against easy competition. The C’s are 16-0 against the West.

John:

Damn straight!

Did you watch them beat the Spurs without KG the other night?

Mike:

No.

Don’t make me regret sending you anything regarding the Celtics.

John:

Do you not remember how this goes?

Mike:

Oh yeah - you are supposed to get all confident about your team’s success, and start thinking about a championship run. Then your hopes and dreams get crushed in grand fashion.

John:

Well, I’m 1-1 for this last year, which is better than I can say about a lot of fans that had teams make a run.
